Consultation Only’ is an exhibition on the library bookshelves of the Middelheimmuseum Library, curated and organized by Napisa Leelasuphapong as a reaction to the catalogues of ‘557,987’ and ‘955,000’ exhibition which was organized in 1969 and 1970 by Lucy R. Lippard. Seven artists both living in Belgium and abroad were invited to create an exhibition on the bookshelves of the library using the catalogues of Lucy Lippard. With different artistic backgrounds of each artist, they took different approaches to react with the catalogues. The exhibition was held from 9 May to 23 June 2017.
A poster announces participating artists and their period of the exhibition. Seven artisits were invited to reconstruct the exhibition catalogue of ‘557,087’ and ‘955,000’; Rawiruj Suradin (09.05 – 12.05), Patsaraporn Liewattanakorn (16.05 – 19.05), Kig Veerasunthorn (23.05 – 26.05), Victor Coupaud (30.05 – 02.06), Krittana Suppajunyarak (06.06 – 09.06), Jonne Nurmela (13.06 – 16.06), and Pam Virada B. (20.06 – 23.06).
This exhibition is a part of 'Renumber the Show', a master project in graphic design by Napisa Leelasuphapong at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, supervised by Bas Rogiers, co-supervised by Johan Pas and Valentijn Goethals.
(The project aims to reconstruct the past conceptual art group exhibitions ‘557,087’ and ‘955,000’ from their catalogues. ‘557,087’ and ‘955,00’ are the first two exhibitions of four ‘Number Shows’ organised by Lucy R. Lippard: ‘557,087’ was held in 1969 at Seattle Contemporary Art Pavilion, and ‘955,000’ in 1970 at Vancouver Art Gallery. The catalogues came in an unconventional format: 138 loose index cards containing general information about the two exhibitions as well as holding artist biographies, instructions and ideas for art works contributed by the participating artists.)
